Dennis Schroder reacts to Gordon Herbert’s departure from Germany NT: “It’s a shame and sad that he can’t continue”

Dennis Schroder didn’t like the fact that Gordon Herbert will part ways with the national team of Germany after the end of the 2024 Olympic Games. The superstar guard called it a ‘shame’ and ‘sad’ that Herbert will leave the national team after three years, while he called out the Federation for not contacting him before making their decision.

“It’s a shame that the national team didn’t come to me and talk about it. I don’t think anyone on our team knew that, and I think the captain should, of course, be spoken to so that I can update my guys…He has led us like no other for the last two years. Great coach. The mentality he brought to the team, the way we perform, the role distribution – that was simply terrific. Of course, I think it’s a shame and sad that he can’t continue,” Dennis Schroder told the Deutsche Presse-Agentur, via Express.

Under Gordon Herbert, Dennis Schroder and his teammates won the bronze medal in the 2022 EuroBasket as well as the gold medal in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. They are among the favorites to go all the way in the Olympics and try to dethrone Team USA.

Germany will take on hosts France, Japan, and the winner of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Riga, Latvia in Group B of the summer Olympics.
