Jayson Tatum on Jrue Holiday after Game 3: “I don’t know how they let us get him”

The Boston Celtics build a dominant team around Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown and now they are one win away from winning the NBA title. While in Game 3 it was time for Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown who were combined for 61 points to help the Celtics push Dallas aside.

However, Tatum shared his thoughts on his teammate Jrue Holiday, who had a crucial role in Game 2 of the series. The Boston Celtics’ star said that the team’s intensity in defense starts with matching Holiday’s intensity.

“I don’t know how they let us get him but, I’m so happy that we got Jrue on our team,” Jayson Tatum said on NBA TV after Game 3. “He just makes winning plays, he obviously has been here winning a championship.

“More than anything, he raises everybody else’s level on defense. You don’t want to be the weakest link, we all take pride in guarding our yard and starts with Jrue Holiday,and we’re all just trying to match his level.”

Holiday had a quiet stat line of nine points, five assists and four rebounds in game 3 as the Celtics downed the Mavericks 106-99. Holiday has been guarding Kyrie Irving all series and held him low in two of the first three games.

Jayson Tatum had to raise his level of play in Game 3 as the Celtics threw away a 21-point lead in the fourth quarter. That said, Tatum remained positive and finished with 31 points followed by Jaylen Brown with 30. The Celtics had to play without Kristaps Porzingis who was ruled out for Game 3.

The Latvian remains uncertain for next contest, but if Tatum and Brown have another offensive masterpiece like the one they had on Wednesday, then the series will end soon. Tatum had his first 30+ point game in the Finals and was asked about his mentality and the criticism he might face for his game.

“Early in your career, you get all the points and the stats… but then they say, ‘you haven’t won’. Now you’re in a position to win a championship and now you’re not scoring enough.'”
