Luka Doncic says fouling out in Game 3 “wasn’t the smartest thing”

All players are putting more effort during the playoffs and Luka Doncic is no different as the Dallas Mavericks superstar fouled out for the first time in his NBA playoffs career during Game 3 loss. The Slovenian phenom reflected on the situation after getting angry with the officials and criticizing the way that he was officiated.

Doncic spoke to Malika Andrews of ESPN on the fact that as the ultimate competitor forced himself to watch Game 3’s final minutes from the bench.

“It was tough. Probably wasn’t the smartest thing. It was a physical game. To get six fouls – I didn’t expect it,” Luka Doncic noted.

Doncic picked up a blocking foul as Jaylen Brown was attacking in the paint in the open court. Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd challenged the call, but officials upheld the decision after video replay.

The Mavericks were down three after Luka Doncic’s sixth foul after going on a 20-2 run to close the gap from down 21. The Mavs’ missed all of their three pointers in the remaining time and shot only 3-of-8 from the field.

“But I have trust in my teammates,” he added. “I think we played some good possessions. I had belief that we were going to win the game. Obviously, having me out there helps Kyrie (Irving) a little bit more. So obviously, I think it would be a different outcome, but you never know.”

Dallas hopes to avoid defeat and a sweep on Friday night being down 3-0. If they win the game in Dallas, the series return to Boston for Game 5.
