Ioannis Papapetrou officially announced that he will not join the Greek national team for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Piraeus, Greeece next month (July 2-7). Amid an injury-plagued season, where he was forced to miss a few months with a knee injury, the Greek forward will skip the tournament to rest and avoid re-aggravating the injury.

Greece will face the Dominican Republic and Egypt in Group B of the tournament. Group A consists of Croatia, Slovenia, and New Zealand. The top two teams will reach the semi-finals and only one will advance to the Olympic Games in late July.
