Crvena Zvezda completed another offseason move by signing veteran forward Nikola Kalinic. The Serbian returns to the Reds after two seasons to help the team in the EuroLeague, ABA and Serbian league.
Kalinic spent the last two season with FC Barcelona but he returns home after the 2021-22 season, as the club announced Friday. The forward’s contract with the Catalans expired and the Serbian will have the chance to play in his home country.
This will be the third offseason signing for the Red and Whites after the end of a disappointing campaign in the EuroLeague. Last season. The 32-year-old Kalinic averaged 7.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 8.3 PIR over 39 games.
During his previous time with Zvezda, the Serbian international registered 12.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists for 11.7 PIR. His first stint with ABA outlet was back in 2014-15. He left the club to join Zeljko Obradovic in Fenerbahce and won a EuroLeague title in 2017.
Kalinic announced his retirement from the Serbian NT and he will be able to prepare for the next season during the summer. Kalinic had an underwhelming year with FC Barcelona and will hope to bounce back returning to a place that he knows well.
