The Cleveland Cavaliers are hoping to have good news in two fronts this offseason as they remain confident about keeping Donovan Mitchell in the team. The superstar guard is available for an extension this offseason and there’s belief that he will remain in the Ohio state for the long run, as The Athletic reports.
The front office is set to present a four-year, $209 million extension to the New York-born guard to keep him with the team. Mitchell was the best player of the rising Cavaliers in the past season where the team reached the second-round of the playoffs and lost to the Boston Celtics in five games.
The Cavs have title aspiration going forward and they want to build the team around Mitchell. The former Utah Jazz star averaged 26.6 points, 6.1 assists and 5.1 rebounds through 55 games.
Cavaliers hire Kenny Atkinson to replace JB Bickerstaff
The Cleveland Cavaliers parted ways with head coach JB Bickerstaff and they are hiring a new coach. According to the latest update, the front office decide to hire Kenny Atkinson.
James Borrego was the front-runner until last week, but recently Atkinson’s candidacy gained considerable momentum. Bickerstaff was dismissed after leading the team to the second round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs.
It was the first time the Cavaliers won a playoff series since LeBron James left for the Lakers in 2018. Atkinson will be the fifth Cavs’ head coach since the historic 2016 NBA title.
