Canada is coming off a stellar performance in the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2023, where they finished third, while they are a favorite for a podium finish in the 2024 Olympic Basketball Tournament.
Still, head coach Jordi Fernandez believes there is still a long way to go before the Canadians become a powerhouse in FIBA Basketball, even though they are in the right direction.
“We gotta keep growing because we’re a team that has never played together. We’ve never had this group, and the guys are doing a great job with the uncertainty of lineups and never been in this type of competition, but we can make up with other ways. I think that in 5-10 years from now, we wanna be all the way to the top of the [FIBA] rankings, but right now, we have to start at some point, and I like the direction that we’re taking,” Jordi Fernandez said, via Basketnews.com.
Canada has played cosnsistently especially on offense and is a step away from advancing to the knockout stage. They are at 2-0 and will need to defeat Spain on Friday to finish on top of Group A.
