Nick Calathes had to go to the hopsital after a rib injury he sustained during the match between Spain and Greece on Tuesday. The Greek star guard underwent medical tests that showed no fracture, but he is still questionable for the group stage finale against Australia on Friday, August 2.
“Nick Calathes was taken to the hospital after the game against Spain due to a sharp pain on his right side, caused by an elbow he received during the match. Initial X-rays and ultrasounds showed no fractures but revealed some damage to the soft tissues and around the lower ribs. Calathes is now taking painkillers and is under medical supervision,” the Greek Basketball Federation said in an official statement.
Nick Calathes played 33 minutes against the Spaniards, and had eight points and seven assists, struggling with his shooting (3/12 from the field, 1/6 from two and 2/6 from three).
Greece remains winless in the tournament (0-2), but if they defeat the Boomers (1-1), they will keep their chances alive to advance to the knockout stage.
