Evan Fournier and France have played inconsistently on both ends of the floor in their first two games in the Olympic Basketball Tournament. Still, they have been undefeated (2-0) and have clinched their spot in the knockout stage.
After avoiding a major upset against Japan (90-94 win in overtime), Evan Fournier said France has to adopt an ‘underdog’ mentality going forward and believes they will play better in the coming games if they are ‘hungry’.
“The way I see it, or at least the way that I’d like the people to see it, it’s that the first two games were the ones where we were the favorites. From now on, I see us as underdogs. Maybe we’ll play better because of that, I don’t know. I have the feeling that this group, the one we’ve had since 2019, plays better when we’re underdogs. We play better when we’re hungry. Maybe it’ll free us up. I think that at the end of the day, it’s better that we’re winning games like this,” Evan Fournier told media on Tuesday, via BeBasket.
Evan Fournier was one of the four France players in double digits with 14 points and six assists, on 5/18 shooting. The French will now collide with Germany on Friday for the top spot in Group B. The reigning World Champions are also unbeaten (2-0).
