The Cleveland Cavaliers appeared poised to keep their core intact ahead of the 2024–25 season after a successful run to the second round of the NBA playoffs for the first time since 2018. As a result, they decided to sign Jarrett Allen to a lucrative 3-year extension to keep their starting center.
The one-time All-Star was injured for most of the team’s playoff run last season. The news of Allen’s extension was reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The dynamic big signed a three-year deal worth $91 million that’ll guarantee him $131 million over the next five years.
During the 2023–24 NBA season, Allen ended up playing in 77 games. He averaged 16.5 points per game to go along with 10.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 blocks. In addition, he shot an efficient 63.4 percent from the field.
Allen anchored the Cavs’ defense and helped the team rebuild its value to a playoff contender in no time after the franchise parted ways with LeBron James in 2018. Allen was named an All-Star in 2022.
Allen had played 81 consecutive games last season before a rib injury kept him out of the final three games against Orlando. Before his injury, he averaged 17 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 68% shooting through the first four games of the opening-round playoff series.
Allen is the third core player to sign a new deal with the Cavaliers, after Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley.
