Steve Kerr on Team USA: “The only thing that matters is winning the gold medal”

Steve Kerr is having one final run with Team USA as head coach and has made it clear that winning the gold medal is the top target for his squad. The Americans have a roster full of megastars, as they seek their fifth straight Olympic gold medal.

“You know, these guys get to lean on each other, every game is different, they get to throw all the other nonsense out the window. Because none of it matters. The only thing that matters is winning a gold medal. So there’s a beauty to it, a purity to it, and I think our guys are really embracing that,” Steve Kerr told media in Lille, via Basketnews.com.

The Americans are coming off a fourth place in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup and want to return to the podium this year. They are the grand favorite to win the Olympic Basketball Tournament and have now clinched their spot in the knockout stage after the 103-86 win over South Sudan.

Team USA improved to 2-0 and joins hosts France, world champions Germany and Canada as the teams that have advanced to the quarter-finals.
