Franz Wagner says playing for Germany in the Olympics is ‘super cool’

Franz Wagner was unstoppable in the group stage finale of the Olympic Basketball Tournament and led Germany past fellow medal contender France (71-85), helping the world champions finish on top of Group B (3-0).

The star guard/forward of the Orlando Magic spent 33 minutes on the floor and had 26 points and five rebounds, on 8/15 shooting, including a couple of super dunks. After the game, he shared his excitement about playing for Germany in the Olympic Games.

“It’s super cool. Just to be in the Olympics is cool, just to be on a team like this is super cool. But when you get to share it with family, we’re well aware that it is a super unique situation,” Franz Wagner said, via the official website of FIBA.

Wagner has averages of 21.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.7 steals, being the go-to guy for the Germans, alongside Dennis Schroder. The reigning world champions are expected to face Greece in the knockout stage of the tournament, in a rematch from the 2022 FIBA EuroBasket quarter-finals.
