Fenerbahce signs former Spurs prospect Luka Samanic

Fenerbahce see the summer as an opportunity to build on the 2024 EuroLeague success as they have concluded the signing of forward Luka Samanic. Samanic was a first-round pick by the San Antonio Spurs. He spent the last season playing for the Utah Jazz.

The Croatian forward/big will make his debut in the EuroLeague as he signed a one-year deal with Fenerbahce, as the club announced. Samanic appeared in 43 games for the Utah Jazz and put up averages of 4.1 points and 2.4 rebounds in 43 games.

The news for Samanic signing come after the Turkish powerhouse announced Sunday that they will keep Arturs Zagars in the roster for the 2024-25 season. Samanic will be the fifth big-time offseason addition after Devon Hall, Wade Baldwin, Bonzie Colson and Nicolo Melli.

Samanic was the 19th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft selected by the San Antonio Spurs. He remained in the NBA for four seasons but failed to find a consistent role despite being part of rebuilding projects in San Antonio and Utah.

He last played in Europe during the 2018-19 Basketball Champions League, averaging 8.2 points and 5.0 rebounds with Olimpija. Samanic was part of the FC Barcelona junior team before began his professional career in Croatia.
