Gordon Herbert calls being the head coach of Germany ‘the best job he ever had’

Gordon Herbert will step down after the end of the Olympic Basketball Tournament, but he is extremely proud of being the head coach of Germany for the past three years. Herbert called being the head coach of the reigning world champions ‘the best job he ever had’.

“I mean, obviously, before we started at the beginning of July, I was a little bit sad. I was kind of thinking, it’s the best job I’ve ever had, the best group of players I’ve ever had. So, it’s a little bit sad, but in life, everything comes to an end,” Gordon Herbert said after the quarter-finals vs Greece (76-63), via Basketnews.com.

The veteran coach will move on to a new chapter in his career, after signing a two-year deal to take over Bayern Munich and return to the EuroLeague for the first time since 2008.

“I discussed the situation with the federation and then informed the players personally. … Some guys were a little bit surprised, and some guys understood it’s the nature of the job a little bit. I asked for a three-year commitment, and I’ll make a three-year commitment, so we’ll go from there,” Gordon Herbert said.
