Kevin Durant might have to be labelled Mr. Team USA after becoming the leading scorer in the team’s Olympic history. Durant scored 11 points in USA’s victory over Brazil on Tuesday to surpass the great Lisa Leslie (488 points) in the list.
The veteran superstar, who set the goal of adding his fourth Olympic gold in his collection this summer, reacted on his milestone with a post in the social media.
“Records are meant to be broken, I’ll hold on to this until another great comes along and passes me up,” Durant wrote.
“…Lisa Leslie you are the gold standard in basketball, I appreciate your love and support throughout the years..much love to you always…it’s all about the gold baby. Let’s get it fellas.”
Team USA remains the only unbeaten team alongside Germany in the Olympic tournament and they are the firm favorites to add another Gold medal after winning the tournament in the five previous occasions. Durant already received a congratulatory message from basketball legend Lisa Leslie.
“Congratulations @KDTrey5 I’m honored to have you break my @TeamUSA Olympic record!!! Our dedication to our country is evident and etched in stone,” Leslie posted on X. “Now go get another Gold medal my friend! One Team, One Goal, Gold!”
Leslie Leslie won gold medals with Team USA in 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008. Durant and the rest of his teammates will return to action on Thursday against Serbia playing for a spot in the Gold medal game of Paris 2024 Olympics.
