Dennis Schroder praises Gordon Herbert; says everyone is ‘heartbroken’ after 4th place in Olympics

Dennis Schroder and Germany ended their Olympic Basketball Tournament campaign with back-to-back losses and missed the opportunity to claim a medal for a third straight major FIBA tournament.

This time, they finished fourth after losing to Serbia in the bronze medal game (83-93). The NBA star said everybody in the team was ‘heartbroken’, while he had nothing but high praise for head coach Gordon Herbert, who leaves the national team after three years.

“Everybody is obviously heartbroken. First and foremost we gotta thank coach for everything he’s done for the German Basketball Federation, for the national team, he brought something, the culture, the enjoyment, the environment we had in the locker room – he created that. He started it three years ago,” Dennis Schroder said, via the official website of FIBA.

Under coach Herbert, Dennis Schroder and Germany emerged as one of the top teams in the world. They finished second in the 2022 FIBA EuroBasket, and fourth in the Olympics, while they became world champions in Manila, Philippines last year.
