LeBron James helped Team USA return to the top after the fourth place in the 2023 Basketball World Cup. The four-time NBA champion led the Americans to the gold medal, while he was named the MVP of the Olympic Basketball Tournament.
Afterwards, he reflected on the fifth straight Olympic gold medal for the Americans, calling it a ‘big moment for USA Basketball’.
“It’s a big moment for USA Basketball. We came together and stayed even keel no matter what was going on in the preliminary games and the tournament games and we got our moment. This is what we all wanted. We came here with one common goal and we took care of busines,” he said after the victory over France in the Final (87-98), via FIBA.com.
In what was his final appearance with the national team, LeBron James had averages of 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 8.5 assists, on 66.0 shooting. He posted a triple-double in the semi-final against Serbia (16 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists), while he had 14 points, 10 assists and six boards against the French.
This was the third gold medal for LeBron James in the Olympics, after 2008 and 2012. He returned to the national team for one final run for the first time since 2012.
