Victor Wembanyama experienced his first Olympics final of his career as France fell short to the USA despite their huge effort. Wemby, who had 26 points and 7 rebounds in the game against the USA, claimed that he’s proud of what he and his teammates achieved despite the defeat.
“A little bit of realization – we are in the Olympics. We’re going to enjoy the moment. I’m proud of my teammates and what we have done here in France in front of our fans. I’m gonna let it soak in and realize what is going on,” the 2024 Rookie of the Year claimed, per FIBA.com.
Victor Wembanyama had an excellent tournament, especially on the defensive end, but brought his A-game against the top-tier competition, including the various Hall of Famers USA had on its roster.
The Spurs’ young star and some of his teammates in the France NT have only scratched the surface of what they can do. They are set to be even better at the next Olympics, which will take place in Los Angeles in 2028.
Victor Wembanyama finished the tournament with a 20.8 average efficiency rating and earned the Rising Star award, playing in front of France NT fans in Bercy Arena. He obviously wanted the gold, but LeBron James and Stephen Curry proved to be too much of an obstacle to be surpassed.
