Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament: A’ja Wilson brings USA its 8th consecutive gold in narrow win over France

The Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament came to its end with a massive thriller between the USA and France with the Americans winning their 8th consecutive gold after a narrow 66-67 victory. A’ja Wilson was the main figure for the winning side as the Las Vegas Aces superstar posted 21 points and 13 rebounds.

USA was down 35-25 early in the second half but came back strong to take the lead late in the fourth quarter. Gabby Williams made a buzzer beater which looked like it had forced overtime. However, her foot just strayed into two-point line and the game ended with a 1-point win for the USA.

That was the closest-fought final ever for the Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament. USA have won their 10th Women’s tournament at the Olympics and won their 8th final in a row, a run that started in 1996. They have extended their current winning streak to 61 games in the competition.

For France, they won their 3rd medal at the Olympics following their bronze medal win in Tokyo with a silver in front of their fans.
