Bonzie Colson parted ways with Maccabi Tel-Aviv, even though he had one year left on his deal with the Israelis, and moved to fellow EuroLeague powerhouse Fenerbahce on a three-year deal (2+1).
The American star forward opened up about his departure from Tel-Aviv, while he shared his excitement about the new chapter in his career with Fenerbahce.
“I got out of my contract, which was an up-and-down process because of the war situation. I didn’t want my family to be in Israel while there was a war going on….It’s another legendary club in Europe for basketball and football. It’s a great situation to have a really good coach and a really good culture and a fun atmosphere…I’m excited about it. They’ve built a really good team with good character guys, but also guys who can play,” Bonzie Colson told Laurie Los Lee of The Standard Times.
Aside from Bonzie Colson, the Turks signed fellow Maccabi star Wade Baldwin as well as Luka Samanic, Nicolo Melli and Devon Hall. They also signed new deals with Melih Mahmutoglu and Nigel Hayes-Davis, while they kept Arturs Zagars, who missed the previous season, due to a serious injury.
Fenerbahce will kick off its 2024/25 EuroLeague campaign with a home game against fellow powerhouse and title contender Olympiacos on Friday, October 4.
