Alex Mumbru is expected to take over the national team of Germany and replace Gordon Herbert, who leaves the squad after three years to take over Bayern Munich.
This is what Nacho Duke of Marca and Rupert Fabig of the Hamburger Abendblatt report, as the deal should become official in the coming days and it will keep the Spanish coach with the team for many years.
Alex Mumbru is coming off a two-year stint with Valencia, which ended in April when he parted ways with the Spanish club, following a mediocre campaign in both Liga Endesa and the EuroLeague. Before that, he spent four years with Bilbao (2018-2022).
Alex Mumbru’s coaching debut will take place during the 2025 EuroBasket Qualifiers in November. Mumbru takes over a team that had a very successful three-year stint, winning medals in the 2022 EuroBasket (bronze) and 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup (gold) and finishing fourth in the 2024 Olympic Basketball Tournament.
