Johannes Voigtmann is returning home after eight seasons after signing a deal with Bayern Munich, the Bavarian club announced Wednesday. The veteran spent the past 8 years away from Germany, playing for several big-time EuroLeague clubs.
Voigtmann signed a three-year deal with the German Bundesliga champions. During the past two seasons, Stretch Big played for Olimpia Milan. The veteran played for CSKA Moscow before joining the Italian giants. During the past season, the German international posted averages of 7.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.1 assists through 34 EuroLeague games.
At the same time, he had a successful run with Germany NT, where he played alongside Bayern Munich’s German core of Niels Giffey, Oscar da Silva, Andreas Obst, and Nick Weiler-Babb.
Voigtmann made a strong contribution to the Germany NT team under newly appointed Bayern coach Gordon Herbert. Voigtmann won bronze in the 2022 EuroBasket and was named World Champion after triumphing in the 2023 FIBA World Cup with his national team.
The former Milan star had a busy 2024 summer again by being part of the Germany NT that finished 4th in the recent Olympics, achieving the German team’s best-ever Olympic placement.
“I will now be part of what I believe is a very exciting project at Bayern, with great potential, a new arena, a new coach, and many players I have already played with and enjoy playing with.
There is also a close family connection to Munich. It all fits perfectly, and I am looking forward to this new challenge, the team, and the fans in Munich.”
