Victor Wembanyama calls Kevin Durant “childhood hero”

The French NT superstar Victor Wembanyama has drawn comparisons to Kevin Durant. The two met each other during the previous NBA season. Lately, they found themselves battling for an Olympic gold medal in Paris, in a game in which the USA came on top after an intense game.

In a recent interview on French television, the San Antonio Spurs young star came forward with his personal plan to improve his game involving Durant.

“Clearly this is my personal childhood favorite,” Wemby said, as transcribed by clutchpoints.com. “He became my favorite player…I made it clear to him that I wanted to learn from him and perhaps only steal 1 or 2 of his secret techniques.”

Wembanyama excelled in the recent Paris 2024 tournament and had an excellent performance against Team USA and Kevin Durant in the final with 26 points and 7 rebounds.

The French superstar finished the tournament averaging 15.8 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists for the hosts.

Wembanyama focused on improving his game after busy summer

Wemby is a generational talent, and it’s only right for him to seek advice and guidance for other generational talent players. Wembayama was caught on camera talking to Kevin Durant after the end of the game between the USA and France.

The French unicorn is set to start his sophomore season with the San Antonio Spurs, playing alongside future Hall of Famer Chris Paul. Wemby finished the season on a high note by being named Rookie of the Year and a finalist for the best defensive player in the league.

He eventually fell behind France NT teammate Rudy Gobert in the DPOY discussion but concluded the season by being a candidate for two regular season awards despite San Antonio’s poor record.

Look for Wembanyama to continue to improve on his averages of 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in his sophomore year.
