Crvena Zvezda has shown interest in bringing back Olympiacos’ Filip Petrusev, and Zvezda’s president, Nebojsa Covic, revealed that they are having ongoing discussions with the 2024 Olympic bronze medalist.
The Olympiacos big man is under contract, and there is no indication that the Reds will let him move to Belgrad yet.
“We had discussions with Petrusev to see if he would like to return. He expressed to us the desire to return,” Covic initially stated during an appearance on the Serbian television network Prva (via Eurohoops).
Petrusev joined the Olympiacos last November after a short stint in the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers and the Sacramento Kings. With Sasha Vezenkov coming back to Olympiacos this summer and Alec Peters signing an extension during the past season, Petrusev might not receive the role he’s expecting ahead of the 2024–25 campaign.
The Reds have already refurbished their roster with the additions of Keenan Evans, Tyler Dorsey, Sasha Vezenkov, and Luca Vildoza, keeping the main core from the past season. After his return to Europe, Petrusev tallied 6.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in the EuroLeague to help the Olympiacos reach the EuroLeague Final Four for the third time in a row.
The Serbian international played for Crvena Zvezda during the 2022–23 season, logging 34 appearances and averages of 11.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per contest.
