In the WNBA restart after the Olympics, Napheesa Collier finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Courtney Williams added 14 points and five assists and the Minnesota Lynx beat the Washington Mystics 79-68.
Collier, who was part of the team that won the gold in Paris a few days ago, posted her 13th double-double. The Lynx were able to break away in the fourth quarter as Courtney Williams snapped a 63-all tie to roar the Lynx to a 70-63 lead with 2:50 left.
Washington made just one field goal in the final six minutes. Collier, in her first game for the Lynx (18-8) since July 4, was 6 of 13 from the field in 30 minutes. Alanna Smith added 12 points and eight rebounds, and Kayla McBride also scored 12.
Copper returns to Chicago, Griner makes WNBA history in win vs. Sky
Kahleah Copper scored 29 points in her return to Chicago, Brittney Griner had 23 points, nine rebounds and six assists and the Phoenix Mercury beat Sky 85-65. Copper was 12 of 19 from the field in her first game against Chicago since being traded in February.
She scored 13 points in the opening quarter and finished the half with 18 points to lead Phoenix to a 50-28 lead at the break. Griner became the first player in franchise history to record at least 20 points, five rebounds, five assists and five blocks in a game.
Breanna Stewart scored 27, Sabrina Ionescu added 18 points and 6 assists and the New York Liberty dominated the Los Angeles Sparks 103-68 for their third 35+ point victory in the 2024 WNBA season.
New York opened a 19-point lead in the first quarter by holding Los Angeles to 10 points. The 2023 WNBA finalists’ 103 points were the most they have scored against the Sparks.
