Angel Reese became the fastest in WNBA history to record 20 consecutive double-doubles. The rookie phenom finished with 19 points and 20 rebounds, but the Phoenix Mercury prevailed over the Chicago Sky, 86-68. Veteran star Diana Taurasi led the way for the winning side with 12 of her 23 points in the first quarter.
Phoenix was able to start hot and scored the most points of the season in a half by taking a 52-35 lead in the first half. Monique Billings, signed earlier Sunday to a WNBA seven-day contract, added 13 points and eight rebounds for Phoenix (15-13), while Brittney Griner added 18.
Chennedy Carter added 16 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Sky (11-16). Isabelle Harrison and Kamilla Cardoso each scored 12 points.
A’ja Wilson powered the Las Vegas Aces (17-9) to an 87-71 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks. The reigning champs were able to brush away the struggling Sparks thanks to A’ja Wilson dominating performance. The 2024 Olympics gold medalist had a game-high 34 points and 13 rebounds.
Wilson went 12-for-20 from the floor and 10-for-11 from the free-throw line en on the way to her third 30-point outing against the Sparks this WNBA season. Kelsey Plum hit four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points, Tiffany Hayes scored 11 and Jackie Young 10 for Las Vegas.
Rickea Jackson led Los Angeles (6-21) with 15 points. Dearica Hamby added 13 points, 11 rebounds and four steals and Kia Nurse scored 12 points.
