Jayson Tatum went through the motions this season after winning his first NBA title with the Boston Celtics and being among the 12 players Steve Kerr and Grant Hill selected to join Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Tatum wasn’t able to find his role in Team USA but called his time in Paris “a hell of an experience.”.
“It’s been a crazy summer,” Jayson Tatum admitted to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Wednesday (h/t Bleacher Report).
“I was fortunate enough to win my second Olympic gold medal on the national team. That was a hell of an experience. I finally won an NBA championship, something I’ve been working on for a very, very long time.
I got extremely close a few times, but finally got over the hump. That was special; I feel like I’ve gotten the weight of the world off my shoulders.”
Jayson Tatum appeared in four of the USA’s six games in Paris and had a minimal role, averaging 5.3 points and 5.3 rebounds in 17.7 minutes per game. LeBron James, Anthony Edwards, Devin Booker, and Kevin Durant were ahead of him in Steve Kerr’s rotation.
After a tumultuous run in the FIBA Basketball World Cup, Team USA was able to hold the Olympic crown despite a few scares during the semi-final and final. That said, Tatum is looking forward to another season, with the Boston Celtics entering the year as the NBA defending champions.
