Guerchon Yabusele has officially begun his stint with the Philadelphia 76ers and in his opening statement referred to his high motive to return to the NBA, his role with his new team and the buyout that had to be paid to be released from Real Madrid.
Of course, there was a buyout,” Yabusele noted, per Sixerswire. “I had one more year with Madrid. I feel like I just wanted to better myself, and let’s just try, you know?
I feel like if you don’t come back in the NBA and you play your whole career, you’re gonna be like ‘if, if, if’. I took that chance, and I decided to come in here and have my second shot.”
The 76ers signed the Olympic silver medalist to a team-friendly one-year deal, while the buyout exceeded $2.0 million, according to various European outlets. The buyout was reportedly mostly paid by the player himself, as the 76ers were only allowed to contribute $850K per NBA rule.
“Like I said, I talked to the coach (Nick Nurse), and I think his plans make sense in what I was trying to accomplish and just to have a second shot. I think not a lot of people have second shots in the NBA.”
Yabusele provides an intriguing fit with the rest of the 76ers’ roster
With Yabusele on the mix, the Philadelphia 76ers are set to present a powerful roster headed by Joel Embiid and Paul George. In addition to the 1-time MVP and multiple times All-Stars, Philadelphia put together a strong act around them, with Tyrese Maxey remaining on the team and several other key veterans joining.
When it comes to Yabusele, the Frenchman will bring a huge amount of energy, athleticism and strength to the Eastern Conference powerhouse.
“Of course, the shooting 3s, but also the drive and the passing skills a little bit, but just reading the game in general. Just bringing that energy, the intensity, and just fight every possession, you know? Leave everything on the court,” the former Real Madrid man said on his skill set.
