EuroLeague transfer target might end up with the Warriors

Davis Bertans is still a free agent, and his name was among the potential targets for Real Madrid and other Euroleague clubs. However, a report from NBA insider Marc Stein suggests that Bertans’ priority remains the NBA.

The Golden State Warriors are looking to fill up the remaining roster spots, and Bertans will attend the team’s training camp. The Latvian sharpshooter became a free agent in July after the Hornets decided to release him from his lucrative contract.

He arrived in the NBA in 2016 signing a contract with the San Antonio Spurs, although it had been the Indiana Pacers who had chosen him in the 2011 Draft with the no. 42. He was part of the trade that brought Kawhi Leonard to the Spurs and it would not be the only trade of his career.

The Spurs sent him to the Wizards in 2019, then to Dallas in 2022 in the trade that included Kristaps Pozingis, and the Mavericks to Oklahoma for the draft rights to Dereck Lively II. He ended up with the Hornets in February 2024 in the trade that also included Vasilije Micic.

In 43 games last season, Bertans averaged 6.7 points and 1.4 rebounds, shooting at a 38 percent clip from beyond the arc. He’s a career 40 percent shooter from three.

Before making the jump to the NBA, Davis Bertans spent two seasons with EuroLeague side Baskonia between 2014 and 2016. He averaged 11.2 points with 38% in three-pointers in the first and 7.8 points and 42% in three-pointers in the second season, playing mainly as a small forward.
