Gordon Herbert returns to the EuroLeague after 16 years and wants to make Bayern Munich a powerhouse in the competition. In his debut season as the Bavarians’ head coach, the Canadian coach has two major goals: claiming the German League title and reaching the EuroLeague Final Four.
“The vision I’ve given the players from Day 1 has been to win the German championship and go to the EuroLeague Final Four. The vision, the values, the team identity are very important to a championship culture,” Gordon Herbert said in an interview with BR24 Sport.
Gordon Herbert is coming off a very successful stint with the national team of Germany, where he led the Germans to the gold medal in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, the bronze in the 2022 EuroBasket and the fourth place in the 2024 Olympics.
Bayern Munich didn’t make many changes to its roster, bringing in Yam Madar, Oscar Da Silva and Johannes Voigtmann. They also signed new contracts with Carsen Edwards and Nick Weiler-Babb, hoping to turn things around after a struggling season.
Bayern Munich will kick off its EuroLeague campaign with a home game against Real Madrid on Thursday, October 3. It will be the first game in their new home, the SAP Garden.
