Angel Reese suffers season-ending wrist injury amidst historic WNBA rookie campaign

Angel Reese completed a historic rookie season after she made known that she suffered a season-ending wrist injury with WNBA regular season closing to its end. Chicago remains playoff bound along with the Atlanta Dream, but they will have to do withour their young star for the last six games of the season.

Reese’s final game was the 92-78 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks. The No. 7 pick in the previous draft, finished the season averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds. It’s the highest rebound average in the history of the WNBA.

The Chicago Sky big finished the season with 26 double-doubles, the most from a rookie in WNBA history.

Earlier in the season, Reese had 15 straight games with a double-double to break the league’s record. She also set the mark for total rebounds in a WNBA season, passing Sylvia Fowles’ mark of 404.

The wrist injury occurred during Friday night’s Sky vs. Los Angeles Sparks game, where Angel Reese scored 24 points, as well as 12 rebounds and two assists.

Chicago is battling for the WNBA’s final playoff spot, currently tied with Atlanta for the eighth position. The Sky host Dallas on Sunday.
