WNBA: Alyssa Thomas’ triple-double propels Sun to victory; Ionescu, Liberty beat shorthanded Aces

Alyssa Thomas recorded her third triple-double of the WNBA season, Brionna Jones scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds and DiJonai Carrington added 19 points to propel Connecticut Sun to a 79-67 victory over Los Angeles on Sunday.

Thomas finished with 12 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds and has a WNBA-leading three triple-doubles this season. Los Angeles (7-28) has lost four in a row and 11 of its last 12 as we’re heading to the final days of the WNBA regular season.

Connecticut has won 13 consecutive games against the Sparks. Jackson led the Sparks with 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting. Odyssey Sims and Dearica Hamby added 10 points apiece.

Thomas reached her 11th career triple-double, which is the most in WNBA history. DeWanna Bonner scored 14 points and Marina Mabrey contributed 10 points for Connecticut (25-10), which rebounded from losing consecutive games for the second time this season.

Sabrina Ionescu scored seven of her 14 points in the fourth quarter to help the Liberty to the 75-71 win on Sunday. The Aces were playing without A’ja Wilson, who was sidelined with a right ankle injury she suffered on Friday against Connecticut.

The Liberty remained three games ahead of Minnesota for the No. 1 seed in the WNBA playoffs. New York has five games left to play. With the loss, Las Vegas remained in the fourth spot, one game in front of Seattle.

Las Vegas returned from down 20 and had one last chance to win the game but Breanna Stewart blocked Jackie Young’s drive down the lane. Jonquel Jones sealed the win with two free throws with 2.5 seconds left. Stewart finished with 21 points for the winning side.

Fever beat Dream behind Aliyah Boston’s career night in the WNBA

Aliyah Boston scored a career-high 30 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, and Caitlin Clark added 26 points and 12 assists to help the Indiana Fever beat Atlanta 104-100 in overtime Sunday.

The Fever duo spoiled Rhyne Howard’s third straight 30-point game. Boston made 11 of 16 from the field and 8 of 8 from the free-throw line while Clark posted her franchise-record 14th double-double of the season for Indiana (19-17).

Howard hit four 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 36 points for Atlanta. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 draft has scored 30-plus points and hit at least four 3s in three consecutive games.

Tina Charles added 17 points and 12 rebounds for Atlanta (12-23) and Jordin Canada also scored 17.
