The New York Knicks are entering the season as one of the grand favorites in the East after the addition of Mikal Bridges to an already strong core headlined by Jalen Brunson. However, New York was unable to keep Isaiah Hartenstein on the roster, and they might look to address their center rotation during this season.
According to NBA insider Brian Windhorst, the New York Knicks are monitoring Portland Trail Blazers’ center Robert Williams. Williams, who was part of the deal that sent Jrue Holiday to Boston last season, is one of the top-tier rim protectors in the league.
“I would say any team looking for a center is going to watch Robert Williams closely this year,” said ESPN’s Brian Windhorst on NBA Today. “I think the Knicks will be among the teams monitoring him.” (h/t Sports Illustrated)
New York re-signed Precious Achiuwa after losing Isaiah Hartenstein. Hartenstein, a breakout star from last season, joined the up-and-coming OKC Thunder this summer.
Williams is under a team-friendly deal in Portland and if the Knicks are facing issues in the pivot position, then the former Celtics’ big man might be the answer to their problem. The Time Lord started the season on a high note, averaging 6.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and 1.2 steals.
However, he saw his season coming to an abrupt end after six games due to surgery to repair bone and ligament damage.
