Fenerbahce has concluded another offseason move with the addition of Canadian international Khem Birch. The team announced on Wednesday that Birch, aged 31, has signed a one-year contract.
Birch returned to Europe last season, joining Basquet Girona the last February. He curved an important role for him and averaged 8.8 points and 5.7 rebounds in the Spanish ACB.
It was reported that the former Olympiacos big was brought in as a replacement for Luka Samanic. However, Fenerbahce denied the report and claimed that the Croatian has taken a leave of absence for a personal matter.
There is no official confirmation that Samanic will be released. However, with Birch joining the club, the future of the former Utah Jazz pivot seems to be bleak. Birch spent the last six years of his career in NBA playing for the Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors.
He made his EuroLeague debut with Olympiacos during the 2016-17 season and made 37 appearance for the Reds. The Canadian international registered more than 290 appearances in the NBA between 2017 and 2023.
Last summer, he was part of the Canadian team that participated in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and averaged 3.3 points and 2.5 rebounds.
