The Minnesota Lynx remained in the hunt for the top seed in the WNBA regular season after nabbing their fourth straight victory. Kayla McBride scored 12 of her 15 points in the third quarter, Napheesa Collier had 14 points and eight rebounds and the Lynx beat the Atlanta Dream 76-64.
Carleton also finished with 14 points for Minnesota (27-9). Courtney Williams added 12 and Alanna Smith had nine. Minnesota held Atlanta to 30% shooting from beyond the arc.
It was tied at 50-all with four minutes left in the third quarter before Minnesota closed on a 13-4 run to take a 63-54 lead. From that point, Atlanta was unable to come back in the game and Lynx got the victory.
Marina Mabrey scored a season-high 26 points and matched a WNBA career-high with six 3-pointers, Brionna Jones had 19 points and eight rebounds, and the Connecticut Sun beat the Los Angeles Sparks 86-66 on Tuesday.
Connecticut (26-10) moved within one game of second-place Minnesota (27-9). Rickea Jackson scored 16 points, and Azura Stevens had 10 points and 17 rebounds for Los Angeles (7-29).
New York Liberty becomes the 2nd WNBA team to win 30 in a span of 36 games
Breanna Stewart scored 27 points, Sabrina Ionescu had 14 points and 11 of New York’s season-high 33 assists, and the Liberty cruised past the Dallas Wings 105-91. New York (30-6) became the second team in WNBA history, joining the 2023 Las Vegas Aces, to reach 30 wins in its first 36 games of a season.
The Liberty holds a 3-game lead over Minnesota with the two teams preparing to clash each other at New York on Sunday. Jonquel Jones scored 19 points and Leonie Fiebich added 16 off the bench for New York. Betnijah Laney-Hamilton had 10 points.
Arike Ogunbowale scored 23 points and Natasha Howard added 21 for Dallas (9-27). The two teams meet each other again on Thursday.
