A’ja Wilson became the WNBA’s single-season scoring leader and finished with 27 points and 12 rebounds to help the Las Vegas Aces beat the Indiana Fever 86-75. The Aces have kept the 1-game lead over the Seattle Storm in the standings and beat Indiana for the 14th straight time.
Wilson passed Jewell Loyd’s total of 939 points on a jumper from the free-throw line with 26.4 seconds left before halftime. She has 956 points this season and could potentially be the first player in league history to reach 1,000 in a year.
Alysha Clark finished with 14 points, Tiffany Hayes added 12 and Chelsea Gray scored 11 for Las Vegas (23-13). Caitlin Clark struggled mighty, going 1 of 10 from beyond the arc, but finished with 16 points on 6-of-22 shooting overall for Indiana (19-18). Kelsey Mitchell scored a team-high 24 points for the losing side.
Skylar Diggins-Smith had 26 points, Gabby Williams scored 13 of her 17 in the second quarter and the Seattle Storm beat the Los Angeles Sparks 90-82. Seattle (22-14) stayed within one game of fourth place Las Vegas (23-13) in the WNBA standings.
Rickea Jackson finished with 22 points and Azura Stevens had 18 points and 15 rebounds for Los Angeles (7-30).
Mystics gets one game away from WNBA playoffs after cruising past Chicago
Aaliyah Edwards had 15 points and 10 rebounds, Brittney Sykes added 14 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists, and the Washington Mystics beat Chicago 89-58 to continue their pursuit for the final WNBA playoff spot. Washington moved within one game of the eighth-place Sky for the final playoff spot.
Washington (12-24) is tied for ninth with Atlanta (12-24). The two teams will meet in a home-and-home series this weekend starting Friday night. Chicago (13-23) closes the week against WNBA playoff-bound Minnesota and Phoenix — before a matchup with Atlanta on Sept. 17.
This was the third victory in four games against Chicago for the Mystics this season. Chennedy Carter scored 16 points and Kamilla Cardoso had 13 points and eight rebounds.
