Klay Thompson is preparing for a new chapter of his career with the Dallas Mavericks. The sharpshooting legend moved from the Warriors after 12 years, and he’s hoping that he can add to his collection of silverware playing alongside Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic.
Thompson revealed in an interview to Grant Afseth of the Dallas Hoops Journal that he took his new teammates on a boat trip to get to know each other.
“It’s been a pleasure getting to know the guys,” Thompson admitted (h/t Bleacher Report). “I just wanted to do something nice for them and take them to one of my favorite places—Catalina Island. We had a great crossing; the water was beautiful that day, the sun was out, and it was awesome.”
Then, Klay Thompson called to share his thoughts on the Dallas Mavericks championship hopes and why he is excited to be part of an organization that reached three games away from winning it all last season.
“I’m excited; it’s a whole new chapter of my career that has the potential to be really special,” Klay Thompson explained. “The team was so close last year—three wins away from a championship—so I know we have the ingredients for success.”
Thompson, 34, might not be the same athlete he was before his injuries, but he remains a lethal shooter who can operate alongside Doncic and Irving. With that in mind, Thompson’s offensive load will be pared down and the veteran sharpshooter is going to be fresh for the final part of the season.
