Panathinaikos survived a tough game in the Aleksandar Nikolic Hall thanks to a strong fourth quarter performance against Crvena Zvezda. Once again, Mathias Lessort was at the top of his game with 9 points and 9 rebounds, while Kendrick Nunn led the way with 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting and four made free throws for Panathinaikos.
Panathinaikos (5-2) triumphed in spite of a big game from Isaiah Canaan who caught fire with 20 points and 6 made threes in seven attempts. Jerian Grant (11 PTS) and Kostas Sloukas (10 PTS) were also huge for the winning side, with the two Panathinaikos players making a couple of clutch threes towards the end of the game to put Zvezda (3-4) away with 77-81.
Panathinaikos finished the double-week on a perfect record and now looks forward to facing arch-rival Olympiacos in Round 8.
Nigel Hayes-Davis goes for an efficient 24-point performance in Fenerbahce win
Nigel Hayes-Davis had a productive evening to allow Fenerbahce (5-2) to finish the week with a 2-0 record. The veteran forward finished with 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and just one turnover. Tarik Biberovic followed his star with 17 points and 5 made threes. Wade Baldwin was also excellent with 13 points and 8 assists in the 89-72 victory against Partizan (2-5).
Zalgiris goes atop, with Butkevicius leading the way
Zalgiris Kaunas is the team with the best record in the league after going 6-1 in the first seven games and Arnas Butkevicius had a hand in this with his 13 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in his team’s 63-62 victory over AS Monaco (4-3).
Defense was the key for the home side, while Alen Smailagic had some clutch moments to help his team by finishing with 10 points. Jordan Loyd had an efficient 18-point performance but it wasn’t enough for AS Monaco.
FC Bayern rolls over De Colo, ASVEL
Johannes Voigtmann might not have led the way in scoring since the opening round against Real Madrid but he did his part in FC Bayern Basketball(5-2) victory against LDLC ASVEL. Voigtmann finished with 9 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists, helping Devin Booker and Oscar Da Silva lead the way in scoring with 16 and 15 points, respectively.
Nando De Colo was excellent for the home side in the 71-84 loss in LDLC Arena with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting along with 7 assists. Theo Maledon had also a positive contribution with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists but obviously it wasn’t enough.
Paris Basketball notches 3rd straight win behind Jantunen dominance
Mikael Jantunen led the way in a serious dogfight between Paris Basketball (4-3) and Baskonia (4-3) as the French team came away with a 67-65 victory to finish the week on a 2-0 record. Jantunen had 8 points, 8 rebounds, including four offensive rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and zero turnovers. He also had the best three-point percentage on the team with two makes in three attempts.
