The Chicago Sky coaching search came to an end after the franchise announced the hiring of former Las Vegas Aces assistant Tyler Marsh in the head coach position. Marsh will replace the WNBA legend Teresa Weatherspoon as the head coach of a promising project in Chicago.
Weatherspoon surprisingly was released after just one season in the Chicago Sky gig. Marsh, 36, is the team’s fourth coach since the Sky won the WNBA championship in 2021 and will try to lead the team back to the playoffs next season.
The Sky finished with a 13-27 record the previous season. Marsh is the second Las Vegas Aces assistant to be hired this offseason after Natalie Nakase, who was hired as the first coach of the Golden State Valkyries.
Marsh joined Las Vegas in 2022, helping Becky Hammon and the team win back-to-back WNBA championships. Las Vegas was eliminated by New York this year in the semifinals.
There are still five head coach openings in the WNBA this offseason after seven coaches were released once the season ended. Los Angeles, Dallas, Washington, Atlanta and Connecticut are still looking to hire new coaches.
