Joel Embiid was planning to make his season debut with the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday in the game against the Clippers. However, the NBA had different plans sanctioning the 2023 MVP with a 3-game suspension for a reported physical altercation.
NBA decided to investigate the incident as reports claimed that Joel Embiid shoved a member of the media in the 76ers’ locker room after the loss to the Memphis Grizzlies last week.
Embiid has yet to make an appearance for the Sixers, who started the season with a 1-5 record. Recently, a local columnist took some shots at Embiid in a story while also mentioning his deceased brother and young son.
The story was based on the fact that Emiid is going to miss games even after complying with the injury list procedures. That said, the 76ers superstar admitted that he expects to not play in back-to-back games for the rest of the season.
Embiid’s sanction will span across the games on Wednesday vs. Clippers, Friday vs. Lakers and Sunday vs. Hornets, meaning that he will make his debut in the NBA Cup opener against the New York Knicks on Monday, Shams Charania reports.
