Stephen Curry downplays Warriors 7-1 start after statement win over Boston

Golden State Warriors and Stephen Curry have started the new season on a high note and confirmed their place as a dangerous team in the West after beating the Boston Celtics 118-112 in the TD Boston Garden. A win against the defending champions has to be certainly seen as a statement win, but Curry sees things differently.

“We haven’t done anything yet,” Curry said after going for 27 in Wednesday’s victory. “A good team, or a relevant team, wins the games they’re supposed to win, steals a couple on the road against good teams and protects home court.

We’ve done those things so far, but we have two more games on this road trip — two tough tests. I like where we are, obviously, but a long way to go.”

Buddy Hield had 16 points including a late-game three-pointer that put the Warriors up by seven, while Andrew Wiggins also had 16. Steve Kerr was booed in the Boston Garden with the Celtics’ fans still mulling over the way that he handled Jayson Tatum in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“Obviously Boston was without Jaylen Brown and [Kristaps] Porzingis, so this is not the best version of their team,” admitted Warriors HC Steve Kerr, “but they’re still damn good. It’s a hell of a win in a tough environment.”

Cleveland Cavaliers nab 9-0 record to make franchise history

The Cleveland Cavaliers were on the verge of making history after starting the season with 8 consecutive wins. On Wednesday, they checked in another box by making it to 9 straight victories by beating the New Orleans Pelicans 131-122. Donovan Mitchell led the way with 29 points, while 5 other Cavaliers finished the contest with 11 points or more.

“We’re playing good basketball,” said Donovan Mitchell, via ESPN. “We’ve done it in so many different ways. We’ve had blowouts, close games, come-from-behind wins.

It’s just the habits that really get me excited about what we’re doing. My biggest thing is just being consistent. Let’s continually be this team.”

Cleveland is set to meet the Golden State Warriors on Friday with the hope of extending their winning record. The Cavs are the only undefeated team in the league at this point after OKC’s loss to the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday.
