LDLC ASVEL has completed the signing of former OKC Thunder and NBA All-Defensive team member Andre Roberson as the club announced. The NBA veteran completed his time with Cholet and became a free agent recently. A player that dominated as a defensive juggernaut during his time in the NBA, Roberson is adding extra size in ASVEL’s wing rotation.
The 32-years old put up 12.2 points on 64.3 percent shooting from the field in five games with Cholet. The veteran wing was also adding 5.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.8 steals in 22.4 minutes. Cholet started the season strong with 5 wins in its first six games, while Roberson had a huge role in victories against ASVEL and Paris Basketball.
A first-round pick in the 2013 NBA draft, Roberson won his place in the NBA thanks to his excellent defensive presence. He received criticism for the inability to stretch the floor especially in the playoffs when the Thunder were competing for the title with a team headlined by Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and Serge Ibaka.
Injuries derailed his career after he was named All-Defense second team in 2017. He signed a 3-year deal worth around $30 million but injury did not allow him to continue on the same course. He ended up out of the league playing in the G League last season. The Colorado product played in OKC for seven years between 2013-2020. He had a brief stint with the Brooklyn Nets in 2021 and spent most of his time in the G League.
With ASVEL, he will make his debut in the EuroLeague after making his first appearance in Europe’s continental competitions with Cholet in the FIBA Europe Cup. The New Mexico-born forward averaged 9.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks in two appearances.
