Panathinaikos is set to host arch-rival Olympiacos Friday night but they will do it without Marius Grigonis who is set to miss extended time with a back issue. The Lithuanian swingman has been sidelined with injury during the last weeks after an injury that limited him to just 2:24 minutes in the Round 4 matchup against Real Madrid.
Since then, the former Zalgiris man remains sidelined and Ergin Ataman confirmed the period that he will need to recover from a ‘serious back issue’ as it was called by the Turkish head coach.
“Grigonis has a serious back problem, so I think he will be out for minimum one, one and a half months,” Ataman noted.
Grigonis averaged 3.0 points and 1.0 assists over four appearances in the EuroLeague this season. The Lithuanian forward will miss at least the next seven Panathinaikos games. Panathinaikos will also have Kostas Antetokounmpo out for the derby against Olympiacos.
The Greek international is dealing with a knee injury. As for Olympiacos, all players except Keenan Evans will be available to play.
