Vassilis Spanoulis called the previous few days a stellar week for Greek basketball and avoided questions about the rumored deal between him and AS Monaco. Greece NT bounced back from Thursday’s loss to Great Britain and beat the same team 77-67 at home to improve to 3-1 in Group F of the 2025 EuroBasket qualifiers.
When Spanoulis was asked about the deal with AS Monaco, he tried to focus on the success of Greek national team in a tough week.
“I believe that we have created something very good and that both in the next windows and in the summer we will work hard to be successful,” Spanoulis said in the post presser of Sunday’s game.
“I don’t want to say anything else because it is unfair to the guys and the National Team. I understand your position and your work, and I respect that. But I also want you to respect that we are with the national team now.”
According to the latest reports, Spanoulis has already been in negotiations with the French league team after AS Monaco decided to part ways with head coach Sasa Obradovic.
The EuroLeague legend who coached Peristeri BC for two seasons before joining the Greece NT will make his debut in the European club’s top-tier competition if he come to an agreement with Monaco.
As for the overall impression he was left with at the end of this week’s action, Spanoulis appeared satisfied regarding the fact that players consistently demonstrated the right response despite playing under pressure, physically and mentally.
The Greek coach thanked the players who put their bodies under huge stress with the decision to play in the EuroLeague Round 11 games and participate with their national team in the FIBA windows the same week.
“I want to thank all the players and especially the Olympiacos and Panathinaikos players who traveled here to help us. I expect that in the next FIBA window all the players will be available, so that we can all advance to the EuroBasket together.”
