Monaco: Vassilis Spanoulis ‘disappointed’ with his players’ approach in loss to Barcelona

Vassilis Spanoulis was disappointed following Monaco’s home loss to Barcelona on Thursday (84-98). The Greek head coach didn’t like the way his players approached the game on both ends and called them out for their performance.

Meanwhile, Vassilis Spanoulis said that the Monegasques now need to bounce back and get back on track to stay on the upper echelon of the EuroLeague standings.

Congratulations to Barca; they were better than us. We were always one or two steps behind. It was a bad game for us, and we got what we deserved. We were always reacting, as if we expected it to be an easy game. I don’t know why. We were not mentally and physically present. I’m very disappointed with our defense and our approach to the game. It’s my responsibility to solve the problemWe had a really bad game and didn’t want to play together. Overall, it was a bad game, both offensively and defensively. We won so many games, but we had a bad one. We need to see what happened, what to correct, and then move on. This is the EuroLeague,” Vassilis Spanoulis said afterwards. [h/t Eurohoops.net]

Monaco trailed by as many as 14 in the first half (31-45), but came back and erased the Catalans’ deficit. However, the Blaugrana stood tall and outscored their opponents 43-53 in the second half to seal the deal and win their second game in a row.
