Miami Heat president Pat Riley hinted at offseason moves for the franchise that would help bolster the roster following a disappointing first-round playoff exit.
Riley was unsure what players the franchise would target in the summer, but he was confident about the team’s situation.
“We probably won’t run it back next season. But that doesn’t mean players are just going to show up. You have to make deals, look at the board, and try to do something that benefits your team and your two key guys,” Pat Riley told media on Friday. [h/t Basketnews.com]
“I think we’re in as good of a situation as we’ve ever been in—from a draft pick, young player, and favorable contract standpoint—in a long time, especially in a market that’s difficult to navigate.”
The Miami Heat reached the NBA playoffs even though they finished 10th in the Eastern Conference. They eliminated the Atlanta Hawks and the Chicago Bulls in the play-in tournament and went on to face the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers in the opening round.
The Cavs dominated three of the four games against the Heat and went on to close the series in an emphatic way, after defeating Miami 138-83 in Game 4.
