Denver Nuggets to reportedly sign DeMarcus Cousins for the rest of the season

DeMarcus Cousins has enjoyed a memorable eight-game run during his stint with the Denver Nuggets. The veteran will continue in Mile High after playing a 10-day contract prior to the All-Star break.

The Nuggets are clearly pleased with what they’ve seen from the big man. Upon the expiration of his 10-day contract, the team signed him to a guaranteed deal that will run for the rest of the 2021-22 season.

The veteran big averaged 6.1 points and 6.3 rebounds in Denver. He has played with the Milwaukee Bucks previously this season, helping the reigning champions through a tough stint.

Once an All-Star, Cousins’ career was damaged by several injuries that kept him away from the court for a long time.

Cousins started his career with the Kings, playing for current Nuggets’ head coach Michael Malone. He then continued his career playing for the Pelicans, Warriors, Lakers, Clippers, and the Rockets.

Cousins, 31, is a four-time All-Star and a member of two All-NBA teams. He was also part of the All-Rookie team in his first season in the league.

The 10-day contract that Cousins signed on February 10 expired Saturday night. It’s his third 10-day deal with Denver and the second non-hardship one, which means he’s not eligible for another 10-day contract with the team.

Cousins has become a journeyman player following three serious injuries to his left leg. Despite shooting just 29 percent from the field, he can be a reliable veteran option behind Nikola Jokic in Denver.

The Nuggets are at 33-25, despite playing without Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr.. They’re ranked sixth in the Western Conference, with Nikola Jokic putting up MVP-type of numbers.
