In a much-anticipated moment in the NBA Las Vegas Summer League, the Golden State Warriors big man James Wiseman made his long-awaited return to basketball action after missing the whole 2021-22 season.
Playing in his first game for Golden State since April 10, 2021, Wiseman scored 11 points, hit five of his seven shots, and he was crucial defensively in the Warriors’ close-fought victory (86-85) over the San Antonio Spurs.
Wiseman went through a lot in the last three seasons, after playing just three games for Memphis in his lone season in the NCAA, the athletic big man was drafted  during the pandemic shutdown.
After two seasons, this was the first Summer League appearance for the Memphis product. He tested positive for COVID-19 when training camp opened at the start of his NBA career. Then followed by a torn meniscus just before the end of his rookie season in April 2021.
He made zero appearances in the 2021-22 after several setbacks in his recovery, watching his team winning the 2021-22 championship from the sidelines. He stayed for 20 minutes in the court vs the Spurs.
Wiseman hopes that he will be ready to help the Warriors defend the title next season, as the back-up center behind Kevon Looney, who re-signed with the Warriors this summers. In any case, the Warriors will have to integrate Wiseman in the rotation smoothly.
