Rob Pelinka ‘thrilled’ about LeBron James’ contract extension with Lakers; calls him a ‘generational basketball player’

Rob Pelinka reacted to LeBron James’ contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers and shared his excitement about the four-time champion remaining with the legendary franchise for another two years.

The GM of the Lakers is thankful for what James has brought to the squad and hopes he will ‘cement his legacy’ in LA.

“LeBron is a generational basketball player who has proven to be even more impactful as a human being. We are thrilled to continue our partnership with him, ensuring he’s a driving force of Lakers culture for years to come.

The Lakers platform has proved again and again to be an ideal place for the game’s all-time greats to thrive and achieve. We are thankful LeBron has experienced the power of that.

With his transcendent talent, unrivaled passion, and dedication to causing powerful change in our society, LeBron continues to cement his legacy in Los Angeles and around the globe,” Rob Pelinka said in a statement.

LeBron James agreed to a two-year extension with the Lakers, worth $97.1M, which could go up to $111M depending on future cap rises.

With him as the undisputed leader, the 17-time NBA champions aim to return to title contention following a disappointing 2021/22 campaign.

LeBron James is also set to break NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time scoring record, which could happen around the middle of the regular season.

For his part, Rob Pelinka has been ‘very active’ in the market, as he wants to improve the team’s roster for the coming season and build a contending team.

Now, they will focus on trading Russell Westbrook and landing another superstar, while at the moment they are viewed as a bottom-tier playoff team.
