LeBron James, Donovan Mitchell claim NBA Players of the Week award for Week 12

LeBron James of the LA Lakers and Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers have claimed the NBA Players of the Week award for Week 12.

The four-time champion averaged 35 points, 8.7 rebounds and 7.7 assists last week and led the Lakers to a five-game winning streak. Hence, the 17-time NBA champions have re-entered the playoff race and are at 19-21 in the West standings.

LeBron James is averaging 29.1 points, 8.2 rebounds and 6.7 assists over 31 games this season and is a few games away from becoming the All-time scoring leader in the league. James will miss Monday’s game vs the Denver Nuggets with left ankle soreness.

Meanwhile, Donovan Mitchell erupted for a career-high and franchise-record 71 points on Monday to tip off his dominant week. Mitchell led the Cavaliers to a 3-1 record during Week 12, averaging 37.7 points, 7.3 assists and 5.3 boards.

His 71-point performance puts him in an elite company as one of only seven players in NBA history to score 70-plus points in a game. Cleveland is currently tied for third in the East standings with a 26-15 record.
